“Time, Time, Time”, the debut album from Montreal singer-songwriter Marcus Lowry, is a collection of 9 original songs that unfold like pages of a book, to reveal stories that speak to loss, unfulfilled dreams and the inevitable passage of time. In Marcus’ world of nautical dreamscapes and pastoral fables, the North-American folk tradition is underscored with the richness of chamber music, hints of impressionism and a touch of the avant-garde—all anchored by Marcus’ vocals and acoustic guitar.

Marcus Lowry is a Canadian singer-songwriter, guitarist and producer based in Montreal. Since earning his Bachelor’s degree in jazz performance from the University of Montreal in 2017, Marcus has worked with a wide array of Canadian and international jazz, folk and pop artists, such as Willows, Little Misty, Aleksi Campagne, Ian Kelly, Belle Grand Fille and many more.
His nostalgic and light-filled debut album, “Time, Time, Time”, was released in the fall of 2023 and produced by the beloved Canadian musician and producer Joe Grass.
Marcus is also one half of the aptly named avant-folk duo, Gen & Marcus. In 2019, they co-produced and released their first album, “Warden”, to local and critical acclaim. The following year, Marcus served as the producer and musical arranger of Belle Grand Fille’s second album, “Nos Maisons”, which also received widespread praise as well as a Félix nomination. Belle Grand Fille’s third album, which Marcus also co-produced, was released in the fall of 2023.
Marcus’ musical journey began at the age of six, when he began studying the violin under Anne Richard of the Laval Symphony Orchestra. He completed both the Vincent D’Indy and McGill Conservatory programs on the violin before deciding, at the age of 10, to trade his violin in for the guitar. Since then, the guitar has been at the core of Marcus’s artistic sound and he has spent the last two decades deepening his connection to music, and nurturing his own voice as a singer-songwriter.
He continues to collaborate as a musician and a producer, all-the-while devoting himself to the research and creation of his own work.
The Story behind “Time, Time, Time”

[LD]: What inspired the lyrics from the record?
[ML]: I got a lot of inspiration from reading Mary Oliver and learning about her view of the world. It felt like she was so in tune with life and nature, and she embraced death with such calm and acceptance. So that surely found its way in there, and I’ve also been struggling with anxiety for a few years now, along with some mild existential dread… all that to say that the passing of time is definitely a recurring fear for me and that fear seemed to come up a lot when writing these lyrics. I tried to use these songs to create stories that would be relatable but could also act as my own personal reminder that this kind of fear can be paralyzing, and block me from exploring all of life’s richness and beauty.
